William Strickland, an American musician who began his career as an organist before the war and became widely known as a conductor, pursued his own unique path in electronic music in his later years, from educational works to soundtracks. This is a truly unique work that will absolutely blow away anyone familiar with his conducting work. Side A features a small imaginary zoo created through improvisation with the Moog synthesizer, while Side B contains abstract electronic music experiments using repetition. Both are intense. Particularly impressive is “Insistence,” where distorted electronic sounds seem to drift into a trance. Definitely give it a listen at high volume.
