A self-released album from 1978 by William Senna, a guitarist from Minas Gerais who later went on to release excellent album on Egberto Gismonti’s Carmo label. The album features 17 tracks, showcasing Gismonti’s distinctive guitar playing which embodies a left-field sensibility that’s clearly in his direct lineage alongside his commanding vocals and the atmospheric vocals and percussion of Thelma Guedes. Highlights include the title track “Canto Do Tempo” featuring a captivating interplay between the two, organic, spiritual folk song “Oferenda” incorporating sound effects of birdsong, percussion experimental tune “Aboio” and “Canção Para O Silêncio” a beautiful, contemplative track with Thelma Guedes on lead vocals. Beyond mere folk music, the album is a compelling listen thanks to its deep spirituality and left-field sensibilities. Please note that the front and back covers have become separated, though the original insert is included. There is some surface noise/crackling but overall, the condition is reasonably good.
