This is part of the Ethnic Folkways Library series, which focuses on "griots," musicians and storytellers in West Africa who pass on tribal history and traditions through song and music. The entire recording is simply superb, from the Manding tribe's narrative song accompanied by the balafon at the beginning, to the historical song narrated with flute and one-string violin, to a performance with the kora by Jali Nyama Suso, a one-legged singer renowned as one of Gambia's best, and the unique performance of the Wolof tribe on a handmade five-string kora. Disc is in amazing NM condition with booklet.
西アフリカにて歌や音楽を通じて部族の歴史や伝統を伝承する音楽家・語り人”グリオ”に焦点を当てたEthnic Folkways Libraryシリーズのひとつ。冒頭のバラフォンを伴い歌われるマンディング族の語り歌、フルートと一弦のヴァイオリンと共に語られる歴史歌、ガンビア随一と評判の片足の歌い手Jali Nyama Susoによるコラとの一幕、手製の5本弦コラによるウォロフ族の独自の演奏など全編素晴らしい録音。これは最高です。盤面NMに近い超良好なコンディション。ブックレット付属。
