A release from King-affiliated label Seven Seas, which compiles a double LP set of seasonal latest pop music and traditional Japanese folk(Minyo) songs performed in an orchestral format. Above all, it includes "Young Min'yō" released in 1971, in which Leon Pops, a session orchestra led by Akira Ishikawa (not jazz drummer), arranges Min'yō songs from all over the Japan in a jazz-funk/jazzy style. The groovy Kuroda-bushi, Yagi-bushi, and Hachinohe Kouta are especially great. The other disc contains a collection of "current sounds" such as the Beatles and Bacharach.
旬のポップスと日本の伝統民謡をオーケストラ仕様にて演奏した作品を二枚組LPとしてコンパイルしたKing関連のレーベルSeven Seasからのリリース。なんといっても71年にリリースされている石川皓也率いるセッションオーケストラ レオンポップスが古今東西の民謡をジャズファンク/ジャズポップ的スタイルでアレンジした”ヤング民謡”を収録。グルーヴィーな黒田節、八木節、八戸小唄あたりは特に白眉。もう一枚にはビートルズやバカラックなど”今の音”と称したサウンド集を収録。
