Burundi, a small landlocked country in East Africa. It possesses a musical cultural heritage utilizing traditional instruments such as the Rwandan Inanga and the Karyenda drum, with which it shares close ties. This 1987 release from the Soviet label Melodiya features a diverse collection of traditional Burundian music. It opens with the astonishing “Mbanzabugabo” performed as if possessed by throat singer Aleksey Kalkin, followed by “Akazehe” a song woven through the intertwining rhythmic vocal patterns of Burundian women, sacred atmosphere of the solo vocal piece “Guhoza Umwana”, "Hozumwana" sung with the traditional Burundian thumb piano, Ikembé, and the magnificent drum ensemble “Ingoma” are among the 11 tracks. Side B, in particular, is movingly fantastic. A1 has light surface noise/scratches that may slightly affect the sound, but otherwise it is in good condition.
