Toshiyuki Tsuchitori is a musician/percussionist who has toured the world after being an avant-garde jazz drummer, releasing many master pieces, and continues to make a huge mark on Japanese history through his research and performance of prehistoric Japanese music. This work was released in 1984 and features a performance using "Sanukaito" a type of rock that has been used in various ways since the Paleolithic period and produces a high, clear sound when struck with a hard object. The clear tones of this performance revisit Japanese music, which is associated with the people of the Jomon period. The wonderful sounds that are engraved on the album make you want to simply lean into the music and feel something.
前衛ジャズ・ドラマーを経て世界各地にて巡演、多くの傑作リリースを残し、また地域に特化した芸能舞台や日本有史以前の音楽の研究と演奏を深めるなど日本の歴史に踏み込んだ活動でも大きな足跡を残し現在も活動を続ける音楽家/パーカショ二スト 土取利行。本作は土取自身の出身地でもある香川県で産出され旧石器時代から様々に用いられ、固いもので叩くと高く澄んだ音のする”サヌカイト(讃岐岩)”を用いたパフォーマンスを収録した84年の作品。透明感のある音色に縄文時代の人々を重ねる日本音楽を再考するような演奏を聞く事ができます。ただただ音に身を寄せ何かを感じ取ってほしい、そう思える素晴らしい音が刻まれています。
