The 1975 first album by Solar Plexus, a jazz-fusion group formed around trumpeter Randy Masters who known for collaborating with numerous renowned musicians. The highlight of this album is its sophisticated crossover sound, rooted in jazz but incorporating elements ranging from Latin, Brazilian, and funk to improvisation and experimental sensibility. Side A opens with Brazilian style "Cricket Dance" featuring intricate arrangements throughout, followed nearly ten-minute tune "Rain Forest" that incorporates electronic sounds and experimental elements, and dope jazz-funk "The Serpent Speaks" highlighted by electric piano. Side B features Latin jazz style “Lace” which exudes a mature, sensual vibe, and crossover jazz piece “Solar Plexus” with diverse musical developments. All 5 tracks are undeniably superb. The record is in excellent condition.
数々の著名ミュージシャンとの共演で知られるトランペット奏者Randy Mastersを中心に結成されたジャズ・フュージョン・グループSolar Plexusによる75年のファーストアルバム。ジャズをベースに、ラテン、ブラジリアン、ファンクからインプロ、エクスペリメンタル辺りまで飲み込んだ洗練を重ねたクロスオーヴァー感覚が最大の聞き所。随所にアレンジが入るブラジリアン・スタイル”Cricket Dance”に始まり、電子音や実験要素を取り入れた10分に迫り展開する”Rain Forest”、エレピを聞かせたドープ・ジャズ・ファンク”The Serpent Speaks”をA面。アダルティに色気たっぷりに聞かせるラテン・ジャズ”Lace”、多様な展開のクロスオーヴァー・ジャズ”Solar Plexus”のB面。全5曲文句なしに素晴らしい。未リイシューの小さなインディレーベルからのリリース。美盤の部類です。
