This is the debut album by Sema, an experimental project from the 1980s helmed by British musician Robert Haigh, who would later gain widespread recognition in the 90s for his work in the drum n bass/jungle scene under the name Omni Trio. The album contains 3 tracks, including an extended piece characterized by an acoustic, sonic-focused approach that evokes his close ties to the group Nurse With Wound. It presents a stoic sonic world, distilling Haigh’s sensibilities across minimalism, sound art, modern classical, industrial, dark ambient, experimental. The name "Sema" is derived from an artists' group associated with the painter Paul Klee, an artist for whom Haigh held a deep admiration, suggesting that the project’s underlying concept was to translate an abstract, painterly approach into sound. The entire record is imbued with a sense of emotion and energy that quietly wells up from within. The jacket shows some signs of wear/scuff, but the vinyl is in excellent condition. A masterpiece.
