Saúl Cosentino is an Argentine composer/pianist born in 1935 who had an unusual career, studying composition while working as a pilot. Around 1970, he performed his own tango compositions for Astor Piazzolla, who gave him advice and recognition, but he continued composing while working as a pilot until 1990. This work was recorded in 1985 and released in 1990 by Melopea Discos. The members include violinist Fernando Suárez Paz who supported Piazzolla for many years, bandoneonist Daniel Binelli, and familiar players such as Ricardo Lew, Adalberto Cevasco, as well as Ruben Rada and Donna Caroll, who each participated in one song, making a total of 9 modern form tangos. The groovy development of “Grasa Y Cemento” with intertwined percussion breaks and Ruben Radan's vocals,, and “A Veces Yo” with the atmospheric Donna Caroll's voice are standouts, but don't miss ”Fuerte Y Claro“ and ”Nueva Propuesta" both of which are beautifully performed. Guess cassette only release.
1935年に生まれパイロットの職業を持ちながら作曲の勉強を続けていた異色の経歴を持つアルゼンチン人作曲家/ピアニストSaúl Cosentino。70年頃アストル・ピアソラに自作のタンゴを披露しアドバイスを貰いながらピアソラに認められながらも90年までパイロットを続けながら作曲を続けていたようです。本作はMelopeaから90年にリリースされている85年録音作品。メンバーにはピアソラを長年支えたヴァイオリン奏者Fernando Suárez Paz, バンドネオン奏者Daniel BinelliにRicardo Lew, Adalberto Cevascoといった馴染みのプレイヤー, そしてRuben RadaとDonna Carollが1曲ずつ参加したモダンフォームのタンゴを全9曲収録しています。疾走感のある展開からパーカッション、Ruben Radanのヴォーカルが入ってくる”Grasa Y Cemento”や雰囲気あるDonna Carollの歌声が素晴らしい”A Veces Yo Te Quiero Buenos Aires”がやはり目を見張りますが、流麗な演奏を聞かせる"Fuerte Y Claro"や”Nueva Propuesta”もお見逃しなく。カセットオンリーと思います。
