The first album in 1983 by Rhys Chatham, a New York-born guitarist/multi-instrumentalist who studied music from La Monte Young, a pioneer of avant-garde music, worked as musical director of an experimental art space, and was greatly influenced by like a No Wave, Post Punk. Particularly impressive is the A-side, which could be used as a dance track with over 16 minutes of percussion, trumpet, bass trombone, and other sounds that unfold like a free session. The percussion part from the middle to the end of A side is amazing. Other excellent tracks include B1 "Guitar Ring," which is a play on rhythm, and B3 "Cadenza," which is like the aforementioned No Wave.
前衛音楽のパイオニアとして知られるLa Monte Youngから音楽を学び、実験的アートスペースの音楽監督などを務め、No Waveなどにも多分に影響をうけていたというニューヨーク生まれのギタリスト/マルチインストゥルメンタリストRhys Chathamの83年のファーストアルバム。特に凄いのがA面で16分を超えるパーカッション、トランペット、バストロンボーンなどがフリー・セッションのように繰り広げられるダンストラックとしても使えそうです。中盤から終盤にかけてのパーカッションパートがとにかくヤバい。他にもリズムで遊んだようなB1”Guitar Ring”、前述のNo WaveのようなB3”Cadenza”も秀逸。
