1977 debut album by Radka Toneff, one of Norwegian jazz icons who passed away at the age of just 30. Released while she was active with Arild Andersen and Lars Jansson known for their ECM recordings after transitioning from a jazz rock band to a quintet in 1975. Beyond the backing that creates a resonant space, this remarkable work showcases her heart stirring vocals throughout, perhaps inherited from her folk singer father. The entire album is excellent, but “Lorelei,” “Love Comes Quietly,” and “Mr. Bojangles” are particularly moving. A gem perfect for listening to in winter, just as the title suggests. Norwegian first edition from 1977.
