7" single from Reunion, the Mascarene Islands. Séga, known as dance music produced by Africans who migrated to the area as slaves, combined with chanson or fusion there, and it seems that local musicians mainly released compact discs and cassettes, as opposed to the ostensible side that was played for tourists. This work is by Punch Des Iles, which seems to be a one-off project consisting of Pierrot Baillif and his brothers/sisters Elsie Baillif, Sulette Baillif, and Mahay Dera, a percussionist who has also participated in Marco Payet's works. A-side features the island fusion type "A La La Nous La" with a witty 6/8 rhythm, while the B-side includes "Bon Peu Nana" with mellow grooves, melancholy vocals and smooth synths. Both are great.
マスカリン諸島・レユニオン産の7インチシングル。その地に伝わる奴隷として渡ったアフリカ系住民が産み落としたダンスミュージックとして知られるSégaがシャンソンやフュージョンと合わさり、ツーリスト用に演奏される表向きの側面に対してローカルなミュージシャンは主に7インチ盤やカセットを中心にリリースがなされていたようです。本作はPierrot Baillifを中心とした、その兄弟Elsie Baillif, Sulette BaillifやMarco Payet作品にも参加するパーカッショ二ストMahay Deraで構成されたワンオフプロジェクトらしきPunch Des Ilesによるもの。A面には軽妙な6/8リズムを刻むアイランド・フュージョン” A La La Nous La”、B面にはメロウなグルーブ、哀愁のヴォーカル、まろやかなシンセがたまらない”Bon Peu Nana”を収録。両面とも内容が異なるのもいいですね。
