A unique musician Pellegrin El Kady, who was born in the Bijagos Islands of Guinea-Bissau and lived in Cape Verde, Mozambique, Angola, Portugal before moving to Quebec in the mid 70's. After completing graduate school there, he worked as an educator and at the same time devoted much of her time to ethnic music therapy. This is the first EP in 1984, released about 10 years after his arrival in Canada. Pellegrin El Kady on guitar and percussion, Evans Baptiste on drums, who also plays on Le Groupe Haïti 2000's masterpieces, and Sergio Goncalves, one of the core members of the progressive fusion band Milkweed, on keyboards/composing/arranging. Total 4 tracks, include "Chôro Bai Samba" an unintentionally shaky hybrid of samba-style rhythms, naughty synths, Balearic feeling, and vocals, followed the lively original is great but "Sunguila" transforms into a strange afro-cosmic style tune played at 33rpm +8, groovy synth fusion "Seiva De Carnaval" and the trippy/funky Afro fusion "Marrabenta". The kind of record that our shop pursues that combines his vitality with various musical sensibilities. Brilliant!
ギニアビサウのビジャゴス諸島に生まれ、カーボベルデ、モザンビーク、アンゴラ、ポルトガルを経て70年代半ばからケベックへ移り住み現地の大学院を修了後は教育者として従事すると同時に民族音楽療法に大きく時間を割きながら制作活動をしていたという特殊音楽家Pellegrin El Kady。本作はカナダ到着から約10年後にリリースされた84年のファーストEP。ギター、パーカッションをPellegrin El Kady、ドラムにはLe Groupe Haïti 2000の傑作群にも参加するEvans Baptiste、キーボード/コンポーズ/アレンジメントをプログレ・フュージョンバンドMilkweedの中心メンバーの1人Sergio Goncalvesが務めています。全4曲の構成で、まずはサンバ風のリズムにイタないシンセ、バレアリック感覚、ヴォーカルがハイブリッドされたような思わず身体が揺れる”Chôro Bai Samba”、躍動感のある原曲もいいですが33rpm +8プレイでストレンジ・アフロ・コズミック調に変容する”Sunguila”、グルーヴィーなシンセ・フュージョン”Seiva De Carnaval”、トリッピー/ファンキーなアフロ・フュージョン”Marrabenta”を収録。彼のヴァイタリティと様々な音楽的感覚が結びついたような当店が追い求めるそんなレコード。最高です！
