A unique musician Pellegrin El Kady, who was born in the Bijagos Islands of Guinea-Bissau and lived in Cape Verde, Mozambique, Angola, Portugal before moving to Quebec in the mid 70's. After completing graduate school there, he worked as an educator and at the same time devoted much of her time to ethnic music therapy. This album released in 1986 following 84' maxi single. As with the previous album, many local musicians, including keyboard player Sergio Goncalves, participated. It features a wide range of tunes from Afro to New Wave to Balearic, including the gentle Balearic tune "Sahel" and the melancholy synth-pop "Bolanha," which seems to place more emphasis on songwriting. It's distinctly different from other African works, and is overflowing with a delicacy and vitality that could only have been achieved in the region where the artist moved to. Amazing.
ギニアビサウのビジャゴス諸島に生まれ、カーボベルデ、モザンビーク、アンゴラ、ポルトガルを経て70年代半ばからケベックへ移り住み現地の大学院を修了後は教育者として従事すると同時に民族音楽療法に大きく時間を割きながら制作活動をしていたという特殊音楽家Pellegrin El Kady。カナダからリリースの84年のマキシシングルに次いで発表された86年のアルバム。前作同様に鍵盤奏者Sergio Goncalvesを中心にローカルのミュージシャンが多数参加。穏やかなバレアリック調”Sahel”や哀愁漂うシンセ・ポップ”Bolanha”を筆頭によりソングライティングに重きが置かれたようなアフロ～ニューウェーヴ～バレアリックまで幅広く収録。他のアフリカものとは一線を画す移り住んだその地でしかなしえないであろう繊細さとヴァイタリティに溢れた作品となっています。これまた最高〜
