Odilio González, a leading singer of the Puerto Rican musical genre known as “Jíbaro” which is rooted in Spanish music. A precocious talent who was already performing professionally in New York before he turned 20, he was treated as a star, particularly in Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. This album, released in 1960 and recorded when he was in his twenties, features a mix of jibaro and plena that characterized by catchy lyrics that convey satire and current events. The music is light and rhythmic, yet evokes nostalgic sentiment. It’s a perfect listen for this time of year. Prestine conditon.
