A self-released album by New Kalua, a group of Hawaiian enthusiasts led by Toshiaki Honma, a leader with a long career. Honma performed a steel guitar solo, and each player's performance swayed to a pleasant groove, giving it a quality not typical of private album. Highlights include "A Flower Lei" and "I'll Weave A Lei Of Stars For You" with guest appearances by legendary post-war Hawaiian singer Ethel Nakata, and "Hilo March" with Honma's wonderful steel solo. The pleasant, shimmering sound and relaxing rhythm work are deeply satisfying.
長いキャリアを持つリーダー本間利明を中心としたハワイアン愛好家達のグループNew Kaluaによる自主制作盤。本間はスティールギターのソロを披露したり、各人の演奏が心地よいグルーヴに体が揺れる自主盤らしからぬクオリティ。ハイライトは戦後のレジェンダリーハワイアンシンガーエセル中田がゲスト参加した”フラワー・レイ”と”星のレイに”、本間のスティールソロが素晴らしい”ヒロ・マーチ”などは特に秀逸。心地よい伸びのあるサウンドとリラクシンなリズムワークが身に沁みます。
