Cuban saxophonist Miguel Villafruela, born in 1955, studied at a local art college and after graduating from the Conservatoire de Paris, where he studied abroad, expanded his activities internationally. This was his first album, released in 1986, as Cuba's first classical saxophone player, fusing European technique and delicacy with Latin improvisation. Including ethereal saxophone tone of “La Palabra” dedicated to Brazilian master Heitor Villa-Lobos, "Variaciones Para Saxofon Alto Y Piano" which moves from a meditative theme to parts based on son, guaracha, and ballads, and side A which is filled with songs linked to art. It's wonderful contents that shows the depth of classical, jazz, and Latin.
