Michael Atherton – Windshift

Michael Atherton, a Sydney-based composer and multi-instrumentalist born to an Irish-Welsh father and a German mother, raised in a culturally diverse community, he developed an interest in ethnomusicology while pursuing formal musical studies and actively participating in various cross-cultural musical groups. This album is a solo work released in 1990, a period when his creative activities were expanding significantly. It captivates with unique blend of indigenous and sophisticated sounds, drawing inspiration from the Asia-Pacific and Europe, features 14 tracks created using the didgeridoo, mouth harp, the Philippine melodic percussion instrument known as the klintan, the hurdy-gurdy, and original instruments, alongside electronic instruments such as samplers and synthesizers.
