1970 release is the first of a trilogy produced in Sweden by Detroit-born percussionist and composer Melvyn Price. The album features four tracks with double bass, “Barr Exercises” with its hypnotic minimal percussion played at a leisurely, rhythmic pace, faster-paced version of the aforementioned track “Advance Exercises” designed for advanced players, "Modern Jazz Rhythms" with a deliberate y unconventional beat, and “Samba” which delivers a dynamic yet refined samba rhythm. Highly recommend this album as well.
デトロイト生まれのパーカッショ二スト/コンポーザーMelvyn Priceが自主にてスウェーデンで残した三部作品の初作に当たる70年作。ウッドベースと共にゆったりとリズムカルに弾かれる催眠的なミニマル・パーカッションが心地良く響く”Barr Exercises”、前述曲をスピードを上げて上級者向けに制作された”Advance Exercises”、変則的にじっくりとビートが刻まれる玄人向けパーカッション・トラック”Modern Jazz Rhythms”、躍動的かつ端正にサンバのリズムを刻む”Samba”の全4曲。ミニマルに削ぎ落しながらポスト・コンテンポラリーに楽曲を作り上げているのが好印象。今作も推薦。
