1978 release work by Indian classical singer Manik Varma, born in Maharashtra, Western India. Side A features "Raga Shyam-Kalyan," which is divided into two parts, with an endlessly grooving melody played by tabla and harmonium and Manik's emotional vocals. The part in the second half where the tabla playing increases is also worth listening to. The B-side includes "Raga Bihagda", which has a more singing feel, and "Raga Des", which has a psychedelic raga feel. The inspiring singing, which is based on rigorous training, is simply amazing.
西インドに位置するマハラシュトラ州生まれのインディアンクラシカル歌手Manik Varmaによる78年の作品。延々とグルーヴしていくタブラとハーモニウムによるメロディにManikによる情緒あるヴォーカルが続いていく2パートに別れた”Raga Shyam-Kalyan”をA面。後半のタブラの演奏が増えていくパートも聴き所。B面ではより歌唱を感じられるような”Raga Bihagda”、サイケデリックなラーガを感じさせる”Raga Des”を収録。厳しい修行の上に成り立つという奮い立たせるような歌唱があまりにも素晴らしい。クラシカル・ニューエイジとして聞いても頂けると思います。
