1980 recording featuring John “Kaizan” Neptune, a California-born shakuhachi player who studied the instrument in Japan, and the Arakawa Band led by Tatsuhiko Arakawa. From the tense opening of the Japanese spiritual jazz-funk track “Bamboo” to thrilling extended jazz-funk piece “Blue Wind”, the entire album features crossover jazz sound that fuses the Japanese spiritual essence brought by the shakuhachi with jazz-funk/fusion. Excellent content. The jacket with its nice color scheme is good too.
