The hammered dulcimer, a percussion string instrument originating in Persia, is played by striking metal strings with a plectrum called a hammer. This is a cassette released in 1988 by New Jersey-based hammer dulcimer player Jamie Janover. It contains 5 tracks, including “Crystalline Fractures” where minimal plucking creates intoxicating atmosphere, and “Cloudscape” which builds through improvisation as if vaguely narrating something. The sound is dazzling, evoking ancient resonance while maintaining both transparency and warmth. He continued to release works consistently after this, but only his 1993 album is available as a streaming release and on Discogs. However believe it is a solid work worth listening to, including his other releases. In recent years, he has been active in fields like dubstep and downtempo. This is deadstock acquired directly from artist himself.
金属製の弦をハンマーと呼ばれる撥を打って演奏するペルシャに起源を持つ打弦楽器ハンマー・ダルシマー。本作はニュージャージーを拠点に活動していたハンマー・ダルシマー奏者Jamie Janoverによる88年のカセットリリース。ミニマルにはじき出される爪弾きが陶酔感をかもし出す"Crystalline Fractures"、おぼろげに何かを物語るように即興を重ねていく”Cloudscape"はじめ古代古の響きを感じさせながらも透明感と温かみが共存する煌びやかな音色が形成する全5曲を収録。この後もコンスタントに作品を発表し続けていますが93年作のみのストリーミング音源とDiscogsに登録があるのみですが今作含め聞く価値のある確かな作品と思います。近年はダブステップやダウンテンポなどのフィールドで活躍しています。ご本人経由で譲ってもらったデッドストック品です。
