This album contains the results of what is considered to be the first ever field recording survey in Japan, conducted in the 1920s when recording equipment was not yet widely available, using a homemade phonograph. Based on musicologist Hisao Tanabe's journey of interviewing various ethnic groups in the South Pacific, Taiwan, and Sakhalin, which began in 1922, this record was compiled in 1978. From the storm of wax film noise, one can faintly hear songs imbued with sonic spirit, including songs from the headhunting festivals of Taiwanese mountain tribes recorded in the 1920s when headhunting was still prevalent, battle dance songs recorded on the islands of Micronesia in the South Pacific, and Yukara of the Sakhalin Ainu. There are some staining inside the gatefold, but it is in relatively good condition. Extremely rare.

日本の音楽学者田辺尚雄が1922年の台湾、1923年の樺太、1934年の南洋、1922年の沖縄・八重山へ赴き当時の蓄音機にて録音した音源をまとめ78年にリリースされたフィールドレコーディング作品。蓄音機のノイズを通して聞こえてくる貴重な歌や演奏、感動ものです。当時の写真、航海ルート、細かな詳細の載ったブックレットも凄い。本当に大変だったんだろうとその情熱に感心してしまいます。見開き内に汚れありますが綺麗な部類と思います。非常に稀少。
