Ro Takenaka was an active freelance investigative writer who engaged with numerous "Shima Uta" (Okinawan Min'yō song) musicians including Rinsho Kadekaru and worked on event planning and record supervision. This album recorded in 1975 is one of the works supervised by Genji Kuniyoshi, a leading authority on Miyako Min'yō songs. The accompanying text offers a detailed account of Takenaka’s relationship with Kuniyoshi and provides in-depth commentary on each track, alongside his heartfelt reflections on Miyako Min'yō, a genre that, among the various styles of "Shima Uta" retains ancient melodies that seem to draw one closer to the divine. From iconic love song “Irabutogani” to new style Min'yō song “Kanyushamagayo-” which borrows the melody of an old folk song with lyrics written by Kuniyoshi himself and is sung with a lively rhythm, to dance song “Parumizu no Kuicha-” which builds in tempo, Side A features recordings at Victor’s studio, while Side B features live recordings from Shinjuku. Featuring contributions from Tetsuhiro Daiku, Misako Oshiro, and Masao Yagi. Beautiful copy with rare obi.
