First Light, Australian jazz rock/fusion band that included Ron Carpenter of progressive rock band Aleph, who is well-known to progressive rock freaks. That's the explanation, but it's a simply quality album that seems to have been a locally passed down piece of work until last year's CD reissue. From technical jazz-rock to laid-back mellow sounds to Latin rock, the band develops a groovy crossover sound. We like AOR-like track "Emerald Tide" which has an impressive mellotron tone and extended synth, Latin mellow track "Sonidos Negros", "Earth Wave" and "Solar Illusion" which has amazing technical and thrilling interplay. It's no wonder that Paisley Press, which continues to reissue quality minor releases, has taken a shine to this album. The simple cover is also very nice, with gatefold of a photo of the rising sun instead of an artist's portrait.
プログレファンには知られているというオーストラリアのプログレッシブ・ロックバンドAlephのRon Carpenterが在籍していたジャズ・ロック/フュージョンバンドFirst Light。という肩書ですが、昨年のCDリイシューまではローカルで語り継がれるような作品だったように思える逸品。テクニカルな一面からレイドバックしたメロウなサウンド、ラテン・ロックまで全編隙なしのグルーヴィなクロスオーバーサウンドを展開。当店的にはAOR調のメロトロンの音色/伸びのあるシンセも印象的な"Emerald Tide"、ラテン・メロウを聞かせる”Sonidos Negros”、テクニカルかつスリリングなインタープレイが素晴らしい”Earth Wave”, "Solar Illusion"の両曲などオススメ。クオリティなドマイナー作品のリイシューを続けるPaisley Pressのお眼鏡に掛かったのも頷けます。シンプルなジャケにアー写など載せずに朝日が昇る写真を見開きいっぱいに使うなどこだわりが見て取れるような体裁もまた素敵。78年のオリジナルです。
