The third album and a historic masterpiece by the extraordinary musician Brian Eno, who was forced to quit Roxy Music due to a sense of crisis caused by his immense popularity, surpassing that of Bryan Ferry, and subsequently went solo. Shifting dramatically from the rock style of previous works, this album features five vocal tracks and nine instrumentals, showcasing heightened avant-garde influences and ambient tendencies. Alongside the dramatic classic tune “The Big Ship” and the ambient track “Becalmed” with its pale, mellow synth tones that feel purifying, tracks like A2/A4/B1/B3 strange yet somehow endearing also demand careful listening. It evokes a nostalgia like returning hometown, yet remains a timeless, lifelong work. In excellent condition with the Japanese obi strip. Liner notes by Yuzuru Agi, who has consistently written about Eno.
Roxy MusicでのBryan Ferryを上回る凄まじい人気からそれに危機感を持った経緯からメンバーを辞めさせられ、その後はソロに転じた稀代の音楽家Brian Enoによるサードアルバム並び歴史的名作。前作までのロックな作風から一転して前衛音楽の影響やアンビエント的傾向を強めたヴォーカル曲が5曲、インスト曲が9曲の構成。ドラマチックな名曲”The Big Ship”や淡くまろやかなシンセの音色が浄化するようなアンビエント曲”Becalmed”に加えA2/A4/B1/B3などの奇妙だけどどこか愛らしい楽曲もまたしっかり聞きたい気分。故郷に帰るようなノスタルジアを感じさせるようでいて時代を超越した一生ものの作品。日本版帯付き美品の部類。ライナーノートはイーノを書き続けた阿木譲。
