Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis, the key figures behind this work, had launched the Dome label the previous year. It seems they frequently recorded using every available resource in the studio, even without demo material. Guitarist/singer Desmond Simmons, a friend of theirs, was invited to the studio. He brought a demo tape with a psychedelic guitar pop feel. The two took on production duties, abstracting, inverting, and distorting the sound, resulting in the release of this album. As Graham Lewis himself describes, the fragile, mysterious, and melancholic, edgy sound permeates the entire recording. It seems this strangely unique world was created through processes like having Simmons run around and then rush back to the studio to record vocals before catching his breath (!). His enticing vocals are also great.
