Founded in 1967 by Willem Breuker, Misha Mengelberg, and Han Bennink, Instant Composers Pool (ICP) operates under the concept that "improvisation is an instantaneous act of composition". This album, the 4th release on the label, was recorded in 1969. In response to Derek Bailey’s performance, which pushed the boundaries of what the guitar could do, Han Bennink delivered a nerve-wracking, intense session, responding not only with his drum set but also with an oboe and a variety of percussion instruments. As the title “Frog” suggests, A1 feels like watching a Discovery Channel documentary of reptiles locked in battle. It's incredible. This is the 1978 repress.
「即興演奏とは瞬間的な作曲行為である」というコンセプトのもと1967年にWillem Breuker, Misha Mengelberg, Han Benninkの三者によって設立されたInstant Composers Pool(ICP)。本作はレーベル4番に当たる69年録音作品。Derek Baileyによるギターのあらゆる可能性を広げた演奏に呼応するようにHan Benninkがドラムセットの他にもオーボエや多彩なパーカッションで反応した神経を尖らせた壮絶なセッション。A1はタイトルのカエルにもあるように爬虫類が戦いを繰り広げるディスカバリーチャンネルを通して見ているよう。すっごいです。78年のリプレス版。
