David S. Ware, an unparalleled saxophonist who left behind numerous masterpieces. This 1977 recording marks his first work as leader. Formed in Boston in 1970 as Apogee with drummer Marc Edwards and pianist Cooper-Moore, the group continued performing in New York. Ware honed his ability through collaborations with renowned players like Sonny Rollins, Andrew Cyrille, Cecil Taylor. This album captures all 4 tracks recorded during the trio's final reunion in 1977. The performance is just tereffic, showcasing a dense interplay, control, and expressiveness that feels consciously synergistic. Particularly outstanding is the relentless groove of A2 “Thematic Womb”. Greta condition with shrink.

Ware。本作は初のリーダー作品として録音された77年作。ドラマーのMarc EdwardsとピアニストCooper-MooreとApogeeとして70年にボストンで結成されニューヨークに移ってからもSonny Rollins, Andrew Cyrille, Cecil Taylor Unitといった名だたるプレーヤーと共演しながら自身を高め、77年にトリオとしては最後の再集結で吹き込んだ全4曲を収録。互いの相乗を意識したな密な演奏、コントロール、表現力を感じさせる演奏が素晴らしい。特に息をも付かせぬグルーヴA2”Thematic Womb”は白眉。シュリンク付きの超美品。
