American composer Daniel Lentz. Though widely known among ambient listeners for his 1980s works, he was a major international figure since the late 1960s through his activities as an educator, ensemble leader, and sculptor. Sadly, he passed away this year, 2025. This work is his third album from 1985, considered one of his masterpieces. The highlight is the collective spiritual minimal piece “O-ke-wa” recorded in complete darkness, it features twelve voices, drums, bone files, and bells, inspired by the ceremonial dances of the East Coast Native American Seneca tribe. It appears Daniel Lentz had Seneca heritage. Also included are the performance “Missa Umbrarum” composed of choir and sounds of rubbing and striking glass, and “Postludium,” where the sound of rubbing wine glasses spreads like a starry sky.
