Angolan-born singer Bonga aka José Adelino Barceló de Carvalho, has released over 30 albums to date. Despite being blessed with the circumstances to become famous as a track and field athlete and achieving success in Portugal after transitioning to music, his involvement in the African independence movement led him to move around Europe. Yet he consistently released works and continues his activities to this day. This album was released in 1976 during his exile in the Netherlands. Includes laid-back folk type “Kissueia” followed by the Angolan carnival song “Mundengue Uami” sung with congas, the supremely melancholic semba “Kimoxi” and spiritual tune “Muimbu Afro-America” featuring instruments similar to the berimbau and various xylophones. Featuring numerous local African musicians, it showcases amazing compositions spanning Semba, Afro, and Folk. In excellent condition.
