A masterpiece released on ECM by Swedish drummer/percussionist Bengt Berger, who studied the tabla and mridangam in India during the 1960s. It features a large ensemble including Don Cherry, Christer Bothén, and numerous other Nordic jazz musicians, performing ethnic jazz rooted in Ghanaian funeral music. Include "Bitter Funeral Beer" steeped in a spiritual atmosphere where spirits seem to hover, "Funeral Dance", driven by a torrent of frenetic African percussion, "Chetu" which unfolds with afro free vibes and the epic, twenty-minute-plus "Darafo / Funeral Dance (Dar Kpee)" featuring brilliant trumpet performing by Don Cherry. Flawless. German original in excellent condition.
