A gem in 1985 by Babaouo, a large band of 10 members based in Hachioji, Tokyo. It seems that this LP was released three years after the formation of the band, with some of the members becoming a member of society at the time of release, and the contents are a total of 12 tracks that show a high level of musical maturity that seems to be the result of the collective imagination of the members. Among them, the jazz-rock style "White Whale" with impressive keyboard work from the middle part, like a easy listening tune "Night Sailing" which reminds from title, the jazz-funk type tune "Beyond The Nazca Plains" which reminds of library works, their machine funk tune !? using rhythm machines "Quaint Time", "When The Sky Goes Quiet" that concludes the last, where the development changes rapidly, are particularly amazing. It's a shame it ended with this one piece.
東京八王子を拠点にしていた総勢10名の大所帯バンドBabaouo (ババウー)による85年の自主ファーストアルバム。発売当時には社会人になるメンバーがいるなど結成3年が経過した中でリリースされたLPのようで、内容はというとメンバーたちのイマジネーションが結集したような高い音楽成熟度を感じて頂ける全12曲。とりわけ中盤以降のキーボードワークも印象的なジャズロック調の”白鯨”、タイトルからもイージーリスニングを思わせる軽やかな”ナイト・セイリング”、ライブラリー作品を思い起こさせるジャズファンク風の”ナスカ平原の彼方”、リズムマシーンを使った彼らなりのマシーン・ファンク!?な”クワント・ティエンポ・シン・ベルレ”、目まぐるしく展開が変わるラストを締めくくる”空の静寂の時”など素晴らしいです。聞けば聞くほど引き込まれていく様な不思議なパワーを感じます。付属の「Babaouoつうしん」と題されたペイパーには、まだまだ活動を続けていくと書かれているのでセカンドアルバムは存在するのでしょうか。
