Astrud Gilberto, a singer originally from Bahia who spent much of her life in the United States, rose to fame singing the legendary song “The Girl from Ipanema” a collaboration between her ex-husband, the legendary João Gilberto and Stan Getz and went on to release numerous albums. This album, led by Vincent Montana Jr. of the Sal Soul Orchestra, revives a crossover blend of bossa nova and jazz standards, centered primarily on her own songs. It includes many excellent tracks with superb backing, such as "The Girl From Ipanema", "Far Away" with its adult atmosphere starting with Chet Baker's trumpet, a cover of Trio Ternura's "Black Magic (A Gira)," the catchy bossa soul track "Meu Pião," and ennui disco-style "All I've Got". It’s wonderful. A beautiful US original.
バイーア出身でアメリカで多くを過ごしたものの、元夫である巨星João GilbertoとStan Getzによる大名曲「イパネマの娘」を歌いリリースを重ねていったシンガーAstrud Gilberto。本作はサルソウルオーケストラのVincent Montana Jr. の元、自身の楽曲中心にボサノヴァ〜ジャズスタンダードをクロスオーヴァーに蘇らせた作品。”The Girl From Ipanema”はじめ、 Chet Bakerがトランペットから始まるアダルトな雰囲気を漂わせる”Far Away”、男女3人組コーラス・グループTrio Ternuraのカバー”Black Magic (A Gira)”、小気味いいボッサ・ソウル”Meu Pião”、アンニュイ・ディスコ調に仕立てた”All I've Got”など豪華なバッキングを従えた秀逸な楽曲の数々。素晴らしいです。USオリジナル美盤。
