Ethiopian singer Aster Aweke, born into the upper class, has been active internationally, particularly in the U.S., since the 1980s and has released numerous works to this day. This album is her 1989 debut, released in the UK. Backed by a powerful lineup of Ethiopian musicians, including members of Admas, the group behind the legendary masterpiece "Sons of Ethiopia", such as Abegasu Shiota, who is half-Japanese and half-Ethiopian, as well as Teodros Makonnen, known as a pioneer of the digital music era. The album features a diverse selection of 9 tracks, ranging from digital African pop “Fikhr Anesgne” with its distinctive Amharic (?) lyrics and synth pop style “Sengno” which features a modern arrangement, to the traditional song “Tizita” featuring harp, and the synth ballad “Teyim”. The entire album is amazing, infused with the crossover sensibility.
上流階級に生まれた事から80年代からはアメリカはじめ国際的に活動を続け現在まで多くの作品をリリースしているエチオピア人シンガーAster Aweke。本作は英国からリリースの89年のデヴューアルバム。バックには日本とエチオピアのハーフであるAbegasu Shiota含む伝説的傑作”Sons Of Ethiopia”を生んだAdmasの面々やデジタル音楽時代の先駆者として知られるTeodros Makonnenなど強力なエチオピアコネクションの面々がサポート。特異なエチオピア語(?)のリリックも聴き所なデジタル・アフリカン・ポップ”Fikhr Anesgne”やシンセポップのような現代的アレンジの効いた”Sengno”に加え、ハープを交えた伝統歌”Tizita”、シンセ・バラード”Teyim”までバラエティにも富んだ全9曲を収録。この時代らしいクロスオーヴァー感覚も加味された全編最高な内容。
