John Coltrane was heavily influenced by India in the 1960s. His widow, Alice Coltrane, also traveled to the Orient before creating this album and received great inspiration. Released in 1971, this work is known as an expression of her admiration for India. Side A features "Battle At Armageddon" which starts with thrilling improvisational organ playing and moves to a cosmic, intimate second half, and "Oh Allah" which features a free jazz-style session with violin. Side B features 3 tracks that have a more cosmic, spiritual, and conscious feel. True masterpiece renowned as her greatest work. Simply wonderful. US original. Comes with a Japanese commentary sheet to accompany the import version.
