Alexander Gradsky, also known as the “father of Soviet rock,” grew up in a privileged environment where he was allowed access to the West, and while absorbing a variety of music, he aimed to break away from Western music and created his own musical canon. His best known for 1974 soundtrack work “Romance of Lovers” however we are also interested more radical and experimental works from the late 1980s. This is a conceptual work based on the worldview of poet Nikolay Rubtsov, released in 1987. Its style ranges from cosmic to strange to fairy tale, giving a glimpse of another parallel side of his work.
