Ensamble is a jazz fusion ensemble formed in Valparaiso, central Chile in the early 1980s. Led by saxophonist Jaime Atenas, who also member of one of Chile's legendary bands, Congreso, and the group has performed at various national and international festivals while absorbing and evolving various jazz forms around the world. This is a 1986 release that appears to be cassette-only. Most composition is instrumental. The entire content has a sophisticated sound, especially the highlights are "Carretera Africana" which flows from a primitive introduction into an ethereal and spiritual development, and ethnic jazz style "Orichuna" with a variety of sounds and a male-female chorus. Amazing!
80年代初頭チリ中部バルパライソで結成されたジャズ・フュージョン・アンサンブルEnsamble。チリのレジェンダリーバンドのひとつCongresoにも参加するサックス奏者Jaime Atenasを中心に、世界の様々なジャズの形態を研究し進化を遂げながら国内外の様々なフェスティバルで活躍したグループ。本作はカセットオンリーと思われる86年作。コーラスが入る曲もありますがインスト中心の構成。全編にかけて洗練されたサウンドを奏でていますが、とりわけプリミティブなイントロから幽玄かつスピリチュアルな展開へ流れていく”Carretera Africana”、多彩な音色に男女のコーラスが入るエスニック・ジャズ調”Orichuna”がハイライト。素晴らしい内容です。
