Composer/keyboardist Morgan Fisher shifted his activities to Japan from the mid-1980s. This 1991 release is a CD compilation of music Morgan Fisher composed for a furniture collection launched by Okamura Corporation, a major office furniture manufacturer. The collection was named Sopra Fiume, Italian for “above the river,” and Fisher created music to complement the space. It contains four tracks embodying minimal, softly repeating synth pads consciously designed as furniture music, transparent electric piano tones, and a freshness like the pulsing vitality of life. Though not widely known, it is a truly wonderful work.
80年中頃からは日本へと活動の場を移した作曲家/鍵盤奏者Morgan Fisher。本作はオフィス用家具大手メーカー岡村製作所がイタリア語で川の源流を意味するSopra Fiumeとつけたファニチャー・コレクションを発表した際にその空間に合う音楽をMorgan Fisherが担当した音源をCD化した91年リリース作品。まさに家具の音楽を意識したミニマルにリフレインする柔らかなシンセパッド、透明感あるエレクトリック・ピアノの音色、生命力の躍動のような瑞々しさ等を内包した全4曲。あまり知られていない作品ですが素晴らしい内容です。
