UK based label HWYL is still active today, organized by multi-instrumentalist Steve Parry, also known as the leader of the improvisation ensemble Hwyl Nofio. This is a compilation from the label's early days, released in 1987, which brings together a selection of original atmospheric sound ranging from classical, primitive, jazz, folk, minimal, instrumental modern to future music. As if to determine the label's direction, the album features ambitious and substantial compositions by up-and-coming artists such as Gilbert Isbin, Kevin O'Neill, and Trevnaor Stainsby, and it seems to show Steve Parry's commitment to going beyond ambient/new age music. Epic.
インプロ・アンサンブルHwyl Nofioのリーダーとしても知られるマルチ奏者Steve Parryが主催し現在も活動を続けるレーベルHWYL。本作はその最初期にリリースされた、クラシック、プリミティブ、ジャズ、フォーク、ミニマル、インストゥルメンタル・モダンからフューチャー・ミュージックに至るまでアトモスフェリックなオリジナル音源の集大成を掲げた87年のレーベルコンピレーション。レーベルの方向性を決定づけるようにGilbert Isbin, Kevin O'Neill, Trevnaor Stainsbyら気鋭のアーティスト達による意欲的かつ充実の楽曲が並び、アンビエント/ニューエイジだけにとどまらないその先を見据えたSteve Parryの力の入れようも見て取れるよう。素晴らしい内容。貴重なコンディションです。
