Afghanistan, a landlocked country located at the crossroads of Central and South Asia, is called the crossroads of civilizations because of its diverse cultures as the center of the Silk Road, but it is still under international tension due to the conflict that broke out in the late 1970s. This work was released in 1975 as a historic piece of work compiled by Tomoaki Fujii, an authority in ethnomusicology/musical anthropology, who has been continuously researching the country since 1964 and compiled the results into 5LPs and a dense booklet. From the vast amount of material, performances by experts and ethnic minorities have been omitted, and instead, recordings that are musically excellent, realistic, and easy to listen to have been selected. The quality and quantity of the music is truly outstanding, from folk songs, religious music, and folk music of each city/ethnic tribal, to the poetry of men echoing across the dry land. Currently, musical performances are prohibited in principle, so only hope for the day when people will be able to play and listen to music freely.
シルクロードの中枢として多様な文化が入り混じり文明の十字路とも呼ばれながらも、70年代後半に勃発した長きに渡る紛争から現在も大きな緊張状態が続く中央アジアと南アジアの交差点に位置する内陸国アフガニスタン。本作は民族音楽学/音楽人類学の権威である藤井知昭が1964年より継続的に調査し、それらをLP5枚と濃密なブックレットに編集した75年リリースの歴史的作品。膨大な資料から専門家達の演奏や少数民族の演奏は割愛し、音楽的に優れ、リアルな様子、聞き易いものを抜粋した音源を収録しています。各都市/民族に伝わる民謡、宗教音楽、民俗音楽、乾いた土地に響き渡る男の詩まで圧巻の質と量。50度から-20度までになるという過酷な地での調査にも頭が下がるる一方です。現在は原則的に音楽演奏は禁止との事、人々が自由に音楽を奏で聴ける時が来るのを願うばかりです。
