This 1982 album is led by the Mendes brothers, Gérard and Jean-Claude Mendes, who were born in Dakar, Senegal, and grew up in the island nation of Cabo Verde. The group was formed after disbanding band ensemble Cabo Verde Show, which was popular in France, and as if to trace its history, it has absorbed a variety of rhythms from Africa, Europe, Brazil, western counties, creating a complex and fascinating sound that is different from that of a simple African band. We recommend meloncholic slow synth funk "Ningvem", balearic mellow boogie style "Woasah" with great synth, polyrhythmic samba/bossa tune "Sambinha De Vovo", balearic synth "Deus Qui Mi Deu", but but you can't go wrong with any track. The music transcends tempo and genre, and is what we would call a super crossover African sound. The bright jacket is also unforgettable. Portuguese original.
セネガル・ダカールに生まれ島国カーボヴェルデで育ったGérard MendesとJean-Claude MendesのMendes兄弟を中心としたグループによる82年作。フランスにて人気を得ていたCabo Verde Showというバンドアンサンブルが解散した後に結成されたグループで、その遍歴を辿るようにアフリカ、ヨーロッパ、ブラジル、アメリカ(NY録音)などから多様なリズムを吸収したそこらのアフリカンバンドとは一線を画す複雑で魅惑的なグルーヴを作り出しています。とりわけメロンコリックなスロー・シンセ・ファンク”Ningvem”、シンセ使いが最高なバレアリック・メロウ・ブギー調”Woasah”、ポリリズムを刻むサンバ/ボッサ・チューン”Sambinha De Vovo”、バレアリック・シンセ”Deus Qui Mi Deu”などが当店的にはオススメですが、ダンサンブルな楽曲含め全編間違いないヴァラエティな内容。超クロスオーバーシンセアフリカンサウンドといったところでしょうか。鮮やかなジャケットも一度見たら忘れないですね。ポルトガルオリジナル。
