Following the success of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the new Cuban government saw the film industry as a means of social change and promoted it as a communication strategy for building a revolutionary culture. As a result of these efforts, "Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC)" was established with a large amount of government funding. ICAIC is said to have worked to prosper the country's film industry by ordering films from the United States, Italy, France, Japan, and other countries. Grupo De Experimentación Sonora Del ICAIC is an experimental band that was active from 1969 to 1976, pursuing a new sound different from the typical folklore sound by Alfredo Guevara, one of the members of the Institute who had access to sounds from various countries. This 1974 album is full of experimental material, including mellow Afro-Cuban "Granma" with electronic sound experiments, experimental latin jazz "Grifo", interesting experiment "Danzaria” that sounds like Pascal Comelade has been to Cuba and groovy "La Contradanza" with percussion and piano. Every track is outstanding. One of their best.

1959 年のキューバ革命の成功を受けてキューバの新政府は映画産業を社会変革の手段とみなし、革命文化を築くためのコミュニケーション戦略として映画産業を推進してきた。これらの取り組みによって政府が多額の資金を注ぎ成立されたのがキューバ映画芸術産業研究所（ICAIC）である。ICAICではアメリカ、イタリア、フランス、日本などの映画を取り寄せ自国の映画産業の繁栄に努めていたという。本作のGrupo De Experimentación Sonora Del ICAICは、様々な国のサウンドを入手できる立場にあった研究所のメンバーのひとりであるAlfredo Guevaraが典型的なフォルクローレサウンドとは異なる新しいサウンドを追求し69年から76年まで活動した実験を重ねたバンド。この74年作では正に数々の実験を感じ取れる電子音を交えたメロウなアフロ・キューバン”Granma”、エクスペリメンタル・ラテン・ジャズ”Grifo”、まるでPascal Comeladeがキューバに行ったような路地裏実験曲”Danzaria”、打楽器とピアノによるグルーヴィな”La Contradanza”を筆頭とした全6曲を収録。どの曲も際立っています。彼らのベストのひとつでしょう。
