1963 single release by French free maestro Jef Gilson with big band consisting of Michel Portal, Jean-Claude Petit, Henri Texier, Jacques Thollot, Jean-Louis Chautemps, who would go on to become central figures in the scene. On the A side, "Mowgli's Blues" has a powerful big sound that shows glimpses of the approach to proto free jazz throughout. The B side includes "Up To The Light" which draws you in with spiritual and fluent atmosphere despite being just under two minutes long, followed by "Java For Raspail" where Jean-Luc Ponty participates on the violin and each member plays impressively, running through like jazz rock. None of the tracks are included on the album. Think this is a historically important piece that was released before "François Tusques - Free Jazz" in 1965.
