Gary Bartz, the legendary saxophonist who has been active since the early 60s and continues to perform in Japan even now at over 80 years old. This is his 1969 leader album, recorded with Pharoah Sanders, Charles Tolliver, Stanley Cowell, and others. It's a true masterpiece that combines a spiritual and spacey inclination inspired by a UFO sighting, as the title suggests, with African origins. Three movements seamlessly connect moments of post-bop, straight-ahead swing, and powerful free jazz. This beloved work continues to resonate today, evidenced by a 2019 live performance celebrating its 50th anniversary, featuring Pharoah Sanders. Japanese pressing released the same year as the original, extremely rare with obi.
