Solo Percussion is a self-released album by Robert Pozar, a percussionist who has been active under few names and around New York City since the 1960s. After he actived as a member of first Bob James Trio, member of the Ed Curran Quartet, and the first leader album under the name Robert F. Pozar with Bill Dixon produced, he began to create this spiritual percussion piece that perfomed almost by himself in the 1970s. Starting with "Magistrate Lousvart" a percussion performance that takes you into a labyrinth begins with Farfeeza's electronic organ via the vibraphone, interspersed with organ sounds, followed by “The Winged Coyote” is centered around the performance of a high-speed vibraphone, and features sounds combining ratchet, Indian bells, wood blocks, and gongs, and then crashes down with a combination of whale voices, marimba, and echoplexes, "Echo Afrika" is one of the highlights, with marimbas, bells, and other instruments echoing over wired minimal drumming on A side. “Changes” consists of four parts, from a spiritual opening with tom-toms running through a chorus loop, to parts where electronic string guitar, carillon, and tabla overlap, "Cosmic Piece" a cosmic performance of bass, marimba, and tabla that ends with an ambience-inspired final part on B side. An ultimate work that involves free jazz, spiritual, and ambient listeners. It's extremely hard to find due to its finest content and private release. Lifetime gem.
60年代よりNYを中心に複数の名義で活動した打楽器奏者Robert Pozarが74年に残したセルフリリース作品。最初期のBob James Trioのメンバー、傑作を残したThe Ed Curran Quartetのメンバー、Robert F. Pozar名義ではBill Dixonの元で初のリーダー作を発表後、70年代に入りおおよそ一人で作り上げたスピリチュアル・パーカッション作品が本作。Farfeezaの電子オルガンからヴィブラフォンを経由してオルガンの音を挟みながら迷宮へ導くようなパーカッション演奏が始まる”Magistrate Lousvart”を出だしに、高速ヴィブラフォンの演奏を軸に体鳴楽器ラチェット、インディアンベル、ウッドブロック、ゴングの重演奏からクジラの声、マリンバ、エコープレックスを組み合わせた相互音響へと変化する”The Winged Coyote”、ワイヤードミニマルなドラミングの上をマリンバ、ベルなどがエコーを通して響くハイライトのひとつ”Echo Afrika”をA面。コーラスのループにトムトムが疾走するスピリチュアルなオープニングから電子弦ギター、カリヨン、タブラが重なり合うパートなど4部構成からなる”Changes”、ベース、マリンバ、タブラの宇宙的演奏からアンビエンスを感じさせる最後のパートで締めくくる”Cosmic Piece”をB面に収録。フリージャズ～スピリチュアル～アンビエントリスナーまで巻き込む至高の作品。極上の内容かつプライベートリリースにつき超稀少となっています。一生もの。
