Atelier Peyotl is a publisher that specializes in fantasy literature, avant-garde art, film, music, and other underground subcultures, and has developed a series of cassette books with a unique selection by EP-4, Shanghai Stardust, John Duncan, more. This is one such work, a compilation of 8 new wave artists from Fukuoka that could be called "Mentai New Wave" (Mentaiko, a food that is a specialty of Fukuoka is famous, and Fukuoka rock was called that). A surprising number of tracks have been selected that seem to have had a big role in this work by EP-4's Kaoru Sato, who is involved with the label. Each artist gives off edgey impression, in particularly outstanding tracks are the two post-punk tracks "Moonlight" and "grasshopper" by Neo Museum, who have also released a 12-inch single, long avant track with fantastical synths "Erg" by Labberish who have also appeared on Kageroh and C-M compilations and laid-back wave track "Water Line" by the mysterious group Okusama Memo. It has been written that New Wave was not accepted in Fukuoka and that they felt guilty about being involved in the scene, but what is the real truth?
ファンタジー文学、前衛芸術、映画、音楽、その他のアンダーグラウンド サブカルチャーを専門とする出版社ペヨトル工房が展開し、EP-4, 上海星屑, John Duncanなど独特のセレクションが並ぶカセットブック作品群。本作はそのひとつとなる”めんたいニューウェーブ”ならぬ福岡の8組のニューウェーブ系アーティストを集めたコンピレーション。こちらでもEP-4の佐藤薫が大きく関わっていると思われる驚きの楽曲がセレクトされています。どのアーティストも尖った印象を持ちますが、中でも12インチシングルも残すNeo Museumによる幻想的なシンセ使いのポストパンク調の2曲”月明り”と"キリギリス"、かげろうやC-Mコンピレーションにも参加するラベリッシュによる前衛長尺曲”Erg”、謎グループ奥様メモによるふわゆるウェーブ”Water Line”は秀逸。福岡ではニューウェーブは肩身が狭いなんて書かれてますが個性派揃う関西以西の才能を垣間見れる良コンピレーションとなっています。
