Nihon Kogakuin College was founded shortly after World War II as a vocational school specializing in creators, music, design, technology, etc. The school continues to produce graduates in a variety of fields, and today, Hideki Matsutake, also known as the fourth member of YMO, serving as an instructor. A number of graduation records left by students of the school's Department of Sound Arts have been attracting a great deal of attention. This is one of the graduation works recorded in 1986. Like other works, it contains many quality tracks incudes urban boogie "To Touch You Again" with good use of Italo-like synths, smooth soul "Our Country" with Sade-like atmosphere, and mellow synth ballad "Before the Night Is Over". Arranger Shuichi Funamori was a member of the Modern Jazz Study Group, which included Yoshio Suzuki, Yoshiaki Masuo, and Tamori, and was active in the field of “slow music” which explains why many of the songs are well-crafted and not overly energetic.
クリエーター、ミュージック、デザイン、テクノロジー等に特化した専門学校として戦後まもなく開学した日本工学院専門学校。現在も第四のYMOとしても知られる松武秀樹が講師を務めるなど専門的な分野を学び様々なフィールドに卒業生を輩出しています。その音響芸術科の生徒が残した卒業制作レコードが多数存在しにわかに注目を浴びている。本作は86年に録音された5期生による卒業制作作品のひとつ。例に漏れずクオリティを感じさせてくれる多くの楽曲を収録していて、イタロ系のようなシンセ使いがいい塩梅なアーバンブギー”To Touch You Again"、Sadeのような雰囲気のスムース・ソウル”Our Country"、メロウ・シンセ・バラード”Before The Night Is Over"は特に秀逸。アレンジャーの船守秀一は鈴木良雄, 増尾好秋, タモリなどが在籍していたモダンジャズ研究会のメンバーで”スローミュージック”を掲げた活動をしていて、しっかり聞かせる作り込まれた楽曲が多いのも納得。
