Glen Velez, a frame drum player of Mexican-American descent. An authority who introduced the frame drum to the world, he is widely known for his numerous collaborations with artists like John Cage, Steve Reich, Pat Metheny, as well as his participation in the legendary Música Esporádica project. This work was released in 1985 on the German CMP label. It features five tracks, including unbelievably solo drumming and ritualistic vocals “Bodhran” and two masterful extended pieces with Layne Redmond, manipulating space and rhythm. Released the same year as the aforementioned Música Esporádica, the sound seems consciously designed. Masterpiece.
メキシコ系アメリカ人の血を引く特殊フレームドラム奏者Glen Velez。フレームドラムを世界に広めた権威にして、ジョン・ケージ、スティーヴ・ライヒ、パット・メセニーに代表される共演の数々、アンビエント探求者にも伝説のMúsica Esporádicaへの参加で広く知られています。本作はドイツCMPよりリリースされた85年の作品。独演とは思えないドラム演奏とリチュアル的ヴォイスによるグルーヴ”Bodhran”にLayne Redmondとの空間とリズムを操るように展開する2つの長尺曲を収録した、前述Música Esporádicaと同年リリースもあるのか響きを意識したような全5曲。ジャケットも素晴らしい。名作。
