Edward Vesala, a percussionist of unusual ability, has become an isolated presence with his work with Karelia, which has rediscovered Finnish folklore with humorous and exaggerated interpretations, and his work that spans from the vanguard of free jazz to the abyss of folklore. With his musical imagination, Vesala turned his attention to Africa in this 1989 album. A total of 19 tracks in which children sing along to ethnic music-style performances that include samples and mysterious gimmicks. Rather than Africa, it has the feel of imaginary folk music from nowhere.
フィンランド人打楽器奏者Edward Vesala。60年代より数々のバンドを歴任、フォークロワの再解釈、コラボレーション作品に取り組み、80年代以降はクラシック、タンゴ、民俗音楽等を組み合わせた作品を多くリリースしています。本作はアフリカへと向かった89年の作品。彼の生徒で構成された約10人の奏者によるアンサンブルと共に前衛仕込みのあれやこれや全19曲。子供たちの歌声も相まり摩訶不思議な魅力に溢れています。音楽最高！自身のLeo Recordsからのリリース。
